What are the beaches like in Croatia?
It’s a question we are asked often and one we see often asked on social media. Why? Because, while there are a few sandy beaches in Croatia, most are pebbly and rocky.
Yet this is the very same reason that more than 100 Croatian beaches have earned blue flag status for their remarkable purity on land and in the sea. Much of this is thanks to the white pebbles that cover most beaches, keeping the water a clear, beautiful tone of turquoise.
DIVERSITY OF SPACE
What we love here in Croatia, especially in Split around where we live in Kaštela, most of the coast line is suitable for swimming. Throughout Dalmatia there is a great diversity of space to swim and relax, ranging from popular sandy beaches, to pebbled beaches and wild rocky places. This is in stark contrast to beaches “down under” where we are used to long stretches of white sand.
BEACH SNOB
While I prefer to swim from yachts in the middle of the Adriatic Sea. One of the biggest changes we have seen over the three years we have been in Split is not just the quality of beaches and cleanliness of the sea. Now on many of the beaches, there are also great amenities (e.g. showers) and great beach maintenance.
